Sharing can be an uncomfortable experience. But sharing has the power to literate you with ultimate freedom! Freedom to be everything you are and everything you want to be.
One of the biggest reasons CrossFit has been so successful is its ability to capitalize on the power of group fitness and community building. Great communities share with each other, typically have similar goals, and a culture of helping each other with their unique endeavors. What I have learned from this over the years of coaching is that it can be applied to your life outside the box and evolve the way you interact with people and world around you.
There is this stigma that sharing will lead to people putting judgement on you or looking negatively at whatever your realness is. But living in that world is creating a reality that IS NOT YOU. Living for other people is not freedom... Freedom is the ability to live without the concern for judgement. Freely living to be what you want to be!
When you start sharing the full version of you, you begin to attract more of what you are and what you want to be. Without sharing how can anyone know what you want in life? This is scary and wildly uncomfortable process because sometimes you will push away some people that have been in your life for a long time. But without this process you will remain living a life for others and forget about you. I don't know about you but that is no life I want to live.
Love yourself by being yourself and loving others becomes natural.
Be free to share YOU!
We all have a past. We all have experiences that we aren't proud of. Are you letting them define you and your future self?
About 7 years ago I got this tattoo on my right side - "No Fear, No Regret". This is a daily reminder to myself on how I want to live my life. The literal meaning is not where I gain strength from it but rather not letting the power of regret and fear dictate my life and the decisions I make for my future self.
Our past experiences can create unique fear and regret in all of us. At times these feelings can polarize you and future decisions. That polarization can be suffocating and hinder the growth you wish for your life. For the last 7 years and for the rest of my life my goal is to NOT let Regret and Fear from my past determine where I go. This is a battle between the ears. This is a battle you may face everyday. Continue to kick fear and regret in the face and give yourself the permission to rise above and create the life you DREAM of!
The POSSIBILITIES in this life are limitless, are you opening your mind to see what is right in front of you or willing to search far and wide?
Go out and live YOUR best life!!
Developing into the best version of YOU, I believe, takes a lifetime of work and help from people around you. For the longest time I felt like I had to do everything on my own. For some reason I believed it wouldn't be as "great" if someone helped me. I couldn't be more happy to bust that perspective into a bajillion pieces!!
Over the last 4-5 months I've made the decision it is time to stop pushing away all the love and support that surrounds me. Instead it is time to open my eyes wide to see what the world is putting right in front of me. In the past I was really good at not even acknowledging it and that put me a space of solitude. I may have been there physically but I wasn't really opening up my mind in a fashion that allowed me to learn or engage with other peoples teachings and experiences. Since this growing perspective the opportunities that have opened up to me have been life changing! These changes have been in every aspect of my life... business has never been better; the way in which I have been able to help people has never been better; my family relationships continue to grow; my love for friends and acquaintances have never been stronger; and lastly my relationship with ME has never been more powerful & loving! These last few months have been a true awakening in my life to what is possible. I don't know all the answers for my future but I know how I am going to show up each and everyday... with an open heart, mind & most importantly LOVE!
How are you showing up?
How are you engaging with the people around you?
How are you engaging with your own thoughts?
This is a lifetime of growth and learning!!
This is a quote from the Crossfit Level 1 guide:
"Crossfit is: 'constantly varied, high-intensity functional movement.' This is our prescription. Functional movements are universal motor recruitment patterns; they are performed in a wave of contraction from core to extremity; and they are compound movements–i.e., they are multi-joint. They are natural, effective, and efficient locomotors of body and external objects."

Crossfit will give you the chance to experience a variety of different, natural movement patterns that help you better use and understand what YOU are capable of. Once you begin to explore these movements odds are you will be amazed at the amount of cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, and accuracy (10 Fitness Domains, as defined by CrossFit) you have within you! Ultimately it is about BUILDING a better you and creating more physical opportunity that you may have never seen possible for yourself.
There are a number of complex movements in CrossFit but we do have a variety of foundational exercises that precede them. CrossFit is for everyone because of this exactly. As a coach I will spend much of my time teaching and scaling movements to the athlete's current ability and capability! How cool is it that a fitness program has the ability to scale from a first time exerciser all the way to an elite athlete... all in the same class?! Here are 2 different ways we can scale something:
As a health and wellness coach I choose to teach Crossfit as my primary source of fitness because of its potential to help so many people in so many ways. The growth potential is only limited by creativity and willingness to grow!
We come into this life knowing nothing... from there our parents, family, friends, and society teach us the realities/emotions of THEIR life. These stories can be inspiring and/or defeating to your journey! They can determine what possibilities you may see for yourself!
As a young teen and into my early 20s my self-esteem and self-worth were not strong. I wasn't able to see many positive possibilities for my life because I remained so focused on the faults and failures that were around me. This included mine just as much as others close to me. With a lens defaulted toward "failure" it was really hard to have a positive scope on life in general, let alone my personal journey.
I got to travel and live in a lot of different places growing up, but I always found that no matter how many times I got to "start over" in a new place there was something that never changed... ME. The same self-sabotaging thoughts that said things like "you aren't worthy of winning" or "you can't achieve that goal" followed me EVERYWHERE. I was tired of seeing the same negative, self-defeating pattern come up in my life despite living a "new story" in a new place. It was time to change the story I am telling myself!
The journey of evolving my internal voice and story started with acknowledgment and acceptance of where I was at. This was not easy, this meant seeing some truths that I had avoided for many years. But through acceptance of where I was I came to LOVE NICK. I began loving me for all of me... the failures, the successes, and everything in between. Through a love for me I've seen my self-worth, self-esteem, and love for others grow exponentially! My eyes have been opened to the endless possibilities in this world. The only thing that can stop me from living my dream life is ME!
I invite you to take 5min of silence today to ask yourself the simple questions of "Who Am I?", "Who sees when I see?", "Who hears when I hear?", Who knows that I am aware?" Make no mistake there is no simple answer... challenge yourself to peel back the layers. You are not your name, your associations, your location, or even your thoughts. What do you see and feel?!

As we move into the New Year there is always excitement about new goals & New Year resolutions but why do most people fail to stick to them?
In my personal and professional experience it comes down to motivation vs. dedication. Simply put, motivation is all the "feels" about some new goal; like losing 20lbs this year and getting back into a habit of exercising and eating healthy. It sounds awesome, you see the plan, and get excited about it. Which is very important... this motivation will help you get started, which can be a massive barrier for many people.
BUT and a big but typically that motivation dwindles and dedication will need to take over. Dedication is ACTING on your plan through thick and thin. Knowing and understanding that any goal that challenges you will push out of motivated thinking and into "the grind". Be ready to GRIND with everything you got!
3 Simple Steps to Help Stay Dedicated:
1) Write down your goal and plan, however simple. This should be somewhere you can see/review regularly.
ACCOUNTABILITY is so key when reaching for a new YOU. Share your journey and let your loved ones help you work for what you want to become!
Food is energy. We burn energy everyday, all day. But each activity will cause various levels of energy need. For example, working out will clearly cause more energy expenditure than sitting at your desk. The amount of food you eat should be appropriate to your GOALS & ACTIVITY LEVEL.
What is in food?
Below are the 3 levels I recommend folks to follow in order to build awareness and improve long-term habits!
Personally I have worked through all three phases a number of times over the last 6 years of building better eating habits. Like I've discussed in previous blogs this is a journey that will most likely ebb and flow based on where you are at in life! Enjoy it, take on what you can handle, and keep striving for a better, healthier YOU!
A food log like the one from my last blog, Nutritional Awareness, can give you a lot of insight into your health habits. This week I am going to discuss how to break the food log down and make some simple adjustments to start IMPROVING YOUR EATING HABITS.
Food Log Analysis after 1 Week
Action Plan for Week 2 Logging
After 1 week of food logging you are starting to see the picture of your health habits. The biggest step you can make is ANY STEP in a better direction. When it comes to improving health habits large dramatic changes are hard to sustain.
I believe the key to success in improving your eating habit is centered around small steps for change over a long period of time!
I would love to help anyone through this process... send me a message, or leave a comment and together we can change the course of your health and wellness!
When it comes to getting healthy and managing your weight a great first step is looking at your nutrition. Bring some AWARENESS to where you are at right now! Knowing your current habits allow for simple and attainable adjustments over the long haul. Long term commitment is ultimately a major factor in your success!
There are a number of wonderful diets out there that work wonders for people but the biggest issue I see is folks finding a system that they can stay with for the long term. I want to empower people to have life long habits that keep them healthy!
Over the next few weeks I'm going to go through a simple progression to help YOU improve your eating habits and relationship with food.
STEP #1: AWARENESS!!!
Like many things this will be a process of learning, exploring, and improving FROM WHERE YOU ARE TODAY!
CONSISTENTLY SHOW UP.
CONSISTENTLY DO YOUR BEST.
CONSISTENTLY HAVE A LEARNING MINDSET.
No matter what goal you are trying to achieve it most likely will require your consistent practice & attention. The concept of consistency is simple but the daily or weekly practice of this idea is where the challenge lies. In my opinion, the longer you can stay consistent through the good & the bad, the ups & the downs the greater chance you will have in succeeding. Sometimes, the success I'm referring to may not be what you set out for. For example, in my fitness journey I started out looking to discover my physical potential but as my consistent journey continues the more I am learning about who I am as a person deep down inside. As I continue to ride out my fitness journey it will continue to evolve and so will I.
My main focus as I continue going forward is to consistently SHOW UP to my commitments, always DO MY BEST, and go into each day with a LEARNING MINDSET!
A Simple Awareness Challenge

Happy Fitness, Happy Life!
